I am using it to shave large rounds of leather for drum heads, to make their thickness consistent, which I'm sure is not the intended use but it works very well. It is very stable and the blade is excellent, and in fact I have not been able (not that I'm trying) to make any mistakes or cut deeper than I intended. Very happy with the product! It takes a little practice, but the Scharffix has a lever to lift the cutting head off the anvil and replace it at the same cutting depth, making it easy to move a wider piece back and forth in "rows." **Q: What the maximum skiving length?** A: There is no maximum length. You can continuously pull leather through the machine. The maximum width of cut you can do in a pass is the length of the blade which is about 2 inches. **Q: Does this come with a English manual?** A: Yes it comes with easily understood manual in English.
