Upgrade your legacy device's hard drive.
Works perfectly. I used it to plug in an ssd into my G3 minitower. Had some back and forth but it was because of the system, not the adapter. If you are trying to get OS 9 on your mac, I had the most luck using QEMU to install the os onto the drive before booting. Either way, it's a wonder stuff like this exists and it's a great price.

Works great in OG XBOX. don't bother with generic M03E boards
Worked as expected to cover the drive in an original Xbox. Should listened to all the recommendations that day skip the green generic ones. Tried It first and it immediately gave issues and kept locking up the drive after about 10 mins of use. No issue with the startech so far and it allows me to use a 2.5 to 3.5 tray without having to modify the Xbox 3.5 caddy which the generic green one would have required

Old Mac HD to SSD conversion
Used for old Mac HD replacement. Once configured with the correct partition sizes on ssd the item works great. Been tested an ran under load for three days. No issues. Power cable is a nice touch since it makes the drive easier to mount with an adapter.

Installs easily. But didn't work when connecting a SATA optical drive to burn DVDs/CDs.
I wanted to replace an old IDE/PATA DVD/CD Combo drive with a new optical drive capable of reading and writing double layer DVDs. I bought an LG Super Multi optical drive. The adapter is super easy to install. Just look at the photos. It's really a pretty cool little device. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to work with the LG SATA optical drive. Prior to installing the LG, I went into the Device Manager and uninstalled the old IDE/PATA DVD/CD Combo device. I also uninstalled all of the ATA Channels and the ATA/SATA Controllers. I powered down and swapped out the IDE/PATA drive with the SATA one, connecting it using the adapter. Powered back up and the drivers reinstalled automatically. The new SATA drive seemed to work just fine at first. It was able to read discs without any problems. Unfortunately, I was never able to successfully burn a disc. One of two things would happen. My computer would either freeze and lock up during the burn, or the burn would finish, but it would say that it was unsuccessful. Freezing during the burn was the worst case. I would have to forcefully turn off the power and restart my computer. This happened, or the burn would not succeed, with complete regularity. So, although the optical drive read discs just fine, it would simply not write to discs at all. I really wanted that to work, but it was to no avail. I ended up installing an LG IDE/PATA Super Multi optical drive that supported double layer discs. The write attempts that failed using the SATA drive succeeded with no problems using the IDE drive. There must be something about connecting a SATA drive using the adapter that interfered with the drive's ability to burn discs. I still thing the adapter is a very cool and useful device. And I'm sure that there are other use cases beyond connecting a SATA optical drive where the device works perfectly fine. Perhaps the adapter works connecting a hard drive or SSD. So I'm still giving it four stars. It would be five if only the device worked for me connecting a SATA drive.

A Sata drive to IDE converter that works well
This product works great. I have three of them in one of my machine. To be clear, it converts a sata drive to IDE so it can be plugged into an old machine that is IDE only. It does not convert an IDE drive to sata. I have tried it on multiple HDDs and two optical drives. I have had no issues just leaving everything as cable select. If you want a device to convert an IDE drive to sata, try this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081YP2S5R. Unfortunately, StarTech doesn't seem to make one of these, so I have to plug one of their competitors instead.

Beware the pin header
This product is fantastic. Much better than the cheap options available on facebook. Upon receipt I was blown away by the weight of the product compared to the cheap one I was sending back. Typical Startech quality on full display here. The Good: - Works seamlessly in an original xbox to allow for the use of massive SATA drives (I used it to max out the 2TB limitation of the hardware) - Made with good materials - Includes a molex passthrough to chain the adapter between a source and another drive - Includes jumpers to allow master/slave/cable select - The power adapter attaches parallel to the board, freeing up space in otherwise craped situations The Bad: - Both sides of the board is left entirely exposed, inviting shorts. Would highly recommend taping off the back of the board, regardless of use - The power cable uses the mini-molex plug used by legacy floppy drives, meaning you need to use the included cable to power the adapter. Not a deal breaker, but extra, unnecessary, wires always suck The Ugly: - As opposed to a standard plastic ATA socket, this adapter uses a pin header. Your IDE ribbon will fit fine, but it seems to attach muss less sturdy This device is 300% of the price of competing cheap options, but it is largely worth it to have a one-and-done solution. If you're looking to upgrade your original xbox hard drive in 2021, you really can't go wrong with this.

Super produkt

Excellent product, highly recommended for Retro PCs with IDE support
I've used a few of these in Windows 98 gaming PCs that only support IDE. It means that all of the SATA HDD's I have lying around can be installed in these retro systems, as IDE drives are hard to find and overpriced these days. There are some operating system and hardware limitations of your retro system if you wish to use larger SATA drives, so be prepared to use something like Seatools to "trick" your larger SATA drive into thinking it's only 128GB/137GB in capacity for Win98 usage for example.. I've tried cheap ebay copies of this item and they are intermittent, it's not worth the hassle, spend the money on this for a reliable and great experience ;-)

Works very well. Fast and Highly recommended.
I used this with a SATA HDD to upgrade an IDE based audio recorder (Yamaha AW1600). It worked well with the two drives I tested. These were a Vertex 2 SATA II 60GB and a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB. Having tried two other SATA to IDE interfaces, this was the only one I found that worked properly in my particular scenario. The other interfaces I tried either did not work fully or were very slow. I have not done exhaustive testing but it does appear that this is a very good product.
