The Devil's Nightmare

Very underrated demon movie from the 70's, something about the look of the actresses from that era is more appealing to me. The demure of the 50's the beginnings of High Fashion in the 60's to the sultry vixen of the 70's and the main actresses is just that! Beautiful, mysterious, erotic and seductive perfect for the role she was given. Now don't get me wrong the title alone let's you know not to expect a steller story line and a five star cast but for the subject matter at hand the main actress (Erica Blanc) and the supporting cast do more than an admirable job with the source material at hand dark, creepy, cobb webs are only a few of the highlight of this film. It also has a cool twist at the end of this film that I didn't see coming. Highly recommended.

This is an average horror movie but worth watching. I saw the movie in 1972 and back then, the movie had some scary moments but not enough to make my sister close her eyes or scream like she did in other horror movies. The plot - A group of people visit the castle of a German aristocrat whose family had suffered from a curse spanning several generations. The group includes a young handsome priest. The guests become victims of the curse - the curse of a succubus. The succubus is female demon who seduces men or attack them in their sleep. So it's a no-brainer that the succubus appears as a beautiful woman with a lot of sex appeal. The guests (with the exception of the priest?) display the Seven Sins and they get punished for it. When I saw the movie in 1972, the movie was censored. Watching the DVD, l got to see scenes of nudity and 2 lesbians making love. I got my money's worth! But it is not the steamy nudity that makes the movie worth watching. The succubus shows her true creepy face each time she goes about killing the sinners. Her transformation doesn't involve much make-up and the changes in the face is superficial but yet very effective. This is what I remember best about the movie - a beautiful woman changes her face and we see a sort of old hag with thin facial skin and the colours of a corpse. Her fingernails turn black and her dried up lips darken to brown. CREEPY! NOT as horrible as the transformation of Linda Blair in The Exorcist which was made about a year later or the long-haired bone-crunching ghost in the Japanese horror classic Ju-On but still sufficiently scary to be etched in my memory for over 40 years. The other scare factor is the Devil who appears in the form of a bald- headed man who is truly ugly without any make-up to make him look the part. The Devil in disguise needs no disguise. Worth watching.

Shapely succubus arrives at a creepy castle the same night a collection of sinners encamp from a blocked tour bus. She picks off each one in the midst of a mortal sin until she goes up against a wannabe priest. The skinny, balding personification of death/Satan is especially noteworthy. I saw this on a Creature Feature type TV show as a kid 40 years ago or so and always remembered the guy playing Satan as a really weird stand-out. At the time I remembered it was called Succubus; only after the rise of the Internet was I able to match description to the other title 'The Devil's Nightmare' and now here it is on BD with much improved picture quality. Overall an amusing nostalgic visit in a great presentation. Recommended. (j4.)

what more could you want. Good plot,creepy orghan music, spooky castle, a devil,succubus, preacher, beautiful women. Seen this movie when I was 6. 35 years later and I found it again.

Another cheesy horror flick to add to my collection

The picture was so clear! After loving this movie for many years and having to watch it on grainy VHS or bootlegged DVDs, it was a pleasure to see it in blu-ray quality. The extras were great too. The director talks about his history as a film teacher with no real directing experience, and it's a refreshing change from modern directors.

dvd quality was very good. Some glitches but nothing to get bent out of shape over. I liked the story and i loved the seductive qualities of the film.i didnt care much for the entro with the lesbo vampires.super natural stories have always intrigued me, good verses evil. i love films where the guy gets his woman/woman gets her man. and the bad get whats coming to them. i have been looking for this film for years with no luck. Amazon does a great job with their search assistance.this makes the second time i have found something i thought was extinct. Great job amazon!!

I've always wanted a better version of this and now thanks to the fine folks at "mondo macabro" it's here! We get the usual disclaimer at the beginning that they used the best elements available...... and so forth and warn that in certain parts the video and audio might be unsatisfactory. Well, I'm here to tell you that upon my first viewing I detected ZERO video miscues and just two minor audio clips that were distorted. Overall the color, clarity, & overall presentation is fantastic! One of the more underrated & certainly underappreciated films of the period. We can only hope that mondo macabro/BOUM Productions and others will continue to release more of these classics from the 60's & 70's.

Not bought for me but as a present.

Bon film fantastique avec Daniel Emile Forks dans le role du diable. La musique est aussi sympa et Erika Blanc (que je connaissait pas ) est superbe... Il y a aussi l'acteur ancien dont j'ai oublié le nom que l'on retrouve dans la série Polly Je recommande ( j'ai decouvert ce film sur Ciné FX ). J'ai acheté ce dvd pas de version Française comme spécifié dans la description et pas de VostFR Je suis déçu... Ce dvd est multizone

...but still pretty fun ride. Erika Blanc is pretty excellent in her part as a succubi sent from hell to collect seven souls. The rest of the characters are rather uninspired, as if they know that they're to be done away with, with the shining exception of Daniel Emilfork as the Devil. My three is very weak and given only because of Erika Blancs performance and the gothic mood that the film yet manages to convey.
