Good for testing lowER values
I don't know why API discontinued the low-range testing, but this is their replacement. My tanks are acidic, but I never knew how much - they only went as low as 6.0. Thankfully with this test I found out they really are *AT* 6.0, but I wish I could have bought a low-range test kit by itself, just in case.

I have no way of knowing if it is accurate or not, but they appear to be.
I needed the wide range for daphnia and brine shrimp and this one appears to be good. On an occasion or two I get a very odd reading, but I retest by swirling the water and doing it again. Stagnant water can read differently at the surface than in the middle.

Simple and Easy.
Comes with a bottle of chemical,a capped glass test-tube and a wide range pH color card. Pour 5 ml of water sample into the marked test-tube, add five drops of chemical, cap and mix, then compare it to the color chart. The card has scales/colors of 5.0(orange/red), 6.0, 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0, 9.0(blue) easy to tell the pH difference unless you are colorblind. I have added the acetic acid and sodium bicarbonate to water samples and observed the color changes, so I know this thing work. Also, I have tested it with water samples with known pH, the accuracy is pretty good. The only downside is it doesn't come with an expiration date. For an amateur aquarist like me, this is the startup kit.

Better than the API low range and high range pH testing kits in my opinion
I have struggled finding a convenient and reliable pH testing method. The API Low Range and High Range for freshwater aquarium are too inconclusive between 7 and 8 which drives me crazy (plus you have to make 2 tests) and pH pens are unreliable in my experience and you have to recalibrate them all the time. Test strips are useless (I tried several of the best rated brands on Amazon). I felt upon this test and decided to give a try. It is marketed as pond product but works very well for freshwater fish tanks too in my opinion. The color reading is scaled at a 0.5 point increments which is higher than for the low range and high range API kits, but I don't need 0.2 point precision on pH. I do need though to know for exemple if the pH of my tanks is under or over 7.5 has this is the upper comfort zone limit of some of the fish and shrimps I keep, which was impossible to do with the other kits, plus you only need one test. Simplified my fish keeping hobby and gives me peace of mind.

Kit not complete
Glass tube with cap is not in box and color chart is smudged as if it was used before. Luckily I have 4 glass tubes from an API aquarium test kit. The test solution is accurate so I will keep this kit. I have spent hundreds of dollars on API products over the years and never had any issues. A first-time user of this kit would have had problems from the start.

API is a good quality test kit to purchase.
I've used multiple types of API test kits for my pond and aquariums. Instructions are clear, their kits are easy to use and interpret. The results are accurate when I compare them with other test kits I have. The color chart is reasonably easy to interpret.
