Second Sight (Arcane Society Series Book 1) - Kindle edition by Quick, Amanda. Romance Kindle eBooks @ desertcart.com. Review: Good - Second Sight is the first book in Quick/Krentz’s Arcane Society world, which reaches across three genres, three timelines, and two planets! Here we meet Gabriel Jones, future Master of the Society, and a Para-hunter; who, along with his cousin, is investigating a missing heirloom. He hires Venetia Milton, a photographer, to take photos of the society artifacts, and the two of them narrowly escape from thugs bent on theft and destruction. Later, they meet again in London, where Venetia has taken up the guise of his wife, placing herself, he fears, squarely in the crosshairs of a killer. This is one of my favourite series, one I always enjoy re-reading. The Arcane Society is really the beginning of a “Jayneverse” as the author calls it- a world in which a number of her series are interlinked. Gabriel and Venetia appear in cameos in future historicals, but are also mentioned in some of the other genres under the authors other pen names. It’s an enjoyable read, with a little romance, some action, a bit of suspense, a smidgen of paranormal goings-on, and a dash of humour to round it out. If you enjoy PNR, and especially paranormal historical romance, then this is for you. If you’re a PNR fan, check out the Jayne Ann Krentz and Jayne Castle books that are linked to this one for some contemporary and futuristic versions! Review: Different, but not bad. - Set in the Regency era. Miss Venetia Milton's parents died over a year ago in a train wreck. Since then Venetia has had the responsibility of providing for her maiden aunt, Beatrice Sawyer, her sixteen-year-old sister, Amelia, and her nine-year-old brother, Edward. Having an excellent talent for photography, Venetia had made due. But when the Arcane Society employed her to photograph its collection of relics and artifacts things began looking up. The Arcane Society paid extremely well and in advance. Venetia left Bath, traveled to meet her new employer, Gabriel Jones, and earn her pay. Venetia and Gabriel knew each other less than a week. During the last time together they were intimate. Before they could speak about any possible future together, they were interrupted by two men attempting to steal a two-hundred-year-old strongbox. Gabriel had his coachman take Venetia to safety before going to hunt his prey. Gabriel Jones was a Hunter. The Arcane Society members consisted of secretive, reclusive eccentrics who were obsessed with the arcane and uncanny. Gabriel's psychical abilities made him a predator, a hunter. Once the two would-be thieves were taken care of, Gabriel decided to let people believe he was dead. However, three months later, when he learned Venetia had opened a gallery in London and has been portraying herself as his widow, he knew that she had unwittingly placed herself in grave danger. Gabriel had no choice but to pretend to be Venetia's returned-from-the-dead husband and move in with her family to keep her safe. **** Let me say first off that you should NOT read the first four books of this series in order of release. Instead, read them in the order events happened. Read in the following order: SECOND SIGHT, Book One THE THIRD CIRCLE, Book Four WHITE LIES, Book two SIZZLE & BURN, Book Three I found this story to be very exciting. This author writes in such a way that the impossible suddenly sounds very possible and totally logical. Not many authors can pull this off. However, Krentz seems to have cut her teeth on the challenge and succeeded. BRAVA! **** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.

Enjoyed the storyline and the love connection
I began reading the book because of the overview. It started off slow and it took awhile to develop the story but I stuck with it and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Also loved the interwoven love connection between the two main characters and their ability to work together to solve the mystery.

Venetia Milton is a photographer (and aura reader) and is to catologue a private arcane society collection. Her new employer is Gabriel Jones. After a romantic encounter she later reads in the paper he has died and as a personal tribute she takes on the name Mrs Jones a respectable widow and starts a new career in London as a fashionable photographer. Mr Jones returns from the dead and then the adventures begin... I like this book and it is a way of finding out about the beginings of Arcane.
