Rolling Hills Smart Rolling Pin, 22-1/2 by 2-Inches

My family has been making the same cookie recipe for as long as I can remember. It is a Christmas staple. I had problems getting the dough to the right thickness so some cookies would burn and others would be undercooked. This rolling pin is the bomb. Each cookie was the same thickness, cooked in the same amount of time and none burnt. The dough guides are easy to change and clean up easily. The length of the rolling pin is great but doesn't fit in the drawer I had my last rolling pin in so I made it an accessory on my wall. It was shipped right away and arrived the day before my scheduled cookie baking day, Yahoo. I was so excited I took it to work to share it with my co-workers who thought they would order one as well.

I bought this rolling pin to replace mine (same brand/model) which was damaged in a kitchen flood. This is a great rolling pin because of the rings which allow you to roll out dough to different and even thicknesses. It can be used without the rings if need be. It's made in the USA, too. Love it!

Arrived with 2 of the wooden rings broken. Didn't feel like sending it back. They should package it better.

This would have been a really nice rolling pin except the first one I ordered arrived with one of the spacers completely snapped in two. The second one I ordered (to replace the first one) arrived missing one of the spacers completely. I would be very wary of ordering this particular item or from this seller in general based on my experience. They are 0 for 2 at our house! The rolling pin itself, seems to be a nice enough item... it was just the spacers that caused the problem.

Seems a useful concept. I've often used dowels as a means to roll out a slab of uniform thickness, but dowels can slide around or the pin may run off the dowels. The modular rings on this pin certainly eliminate these problem, at least in theory. Unfortunately, the manufacturer inexplicably decided to make the rings out of wood. The thinness of the rings coupled with the natural grain of the wood makes them quite fragile and easily split under pressure. Nylon rings would have been much more durable in this application. Unfortunately, the pin's flaws don't end there. As others have pointed out, the rings are not precision cut. There is noticeable difference in the outer diameter of each pair of rings, with the middle pair having almost 1/16" difference. Even more annoying, the central hole is cut off center on several of the rings. And one last quip: the central rod is too thin, allowing for considerable flex in the handle. My pin actually arrived with two cracked rings. Not sure if this damage occurred in shipping or not, but I was impressed with TCS Top Chef for quickly responding to my email and sending replacement rings.

I am inexperienced in the world of rolling pins, so I mistakenly thought the actual usable part of the rolling pin was 22.5". I wanted to roll out uniform thin dough for a 16" pizza. Not with this one, as the usable part of this rolling pin is 13 1/4 inches long. Oh well.

This is a favorite of mine for making roll out cookies. It keeps them uniform and makes the job easier. If I had any complaints it would be the difficulty in changing the size disks. It is a bit tricky to get the rubber holder off as it needs to fit tight by design.

I have had a rolling pin similar to this one for about 25 years! My daughter just got married and I gave her one for a shower gift as she uses mine whenever she needs one! The length is probably my favorite thing about it but in my earlier baking years, when I made alot of pies and rollout cookies, the rings were sure handy, too. Now I am of an age (!) in which I no longer need rings for help in rolling to the correct thickness, but as I said before, the length of this rolling pin is wonderful.
