I had my boyfriend join me in the hammock, but it was kind-of cramped and, as he said, "it's not my thing". Pffft - more hammock for me! The hammock and stand come with a carrying case, too. I grew up on "American" hammocks (the design with the wooden spreader bar at each end) so I was a bit dubious of this design. But after some research and realizing that pretty much the rest of world uses this design (and often as their primary sleeping location) I decided to give it a try. I absolutely love it! It is amazingly comfortable and very cozy. But it might not be for everyone. The American design lays much flatter (and is also much easier to flip out of) and allows one to lay there while socializing with others nearby. This hammock envelops you in a cocoon or perhaps cradle-like environment. I find the latter very comfortable and a great way to relax. But if socializing with others while using the hammock is your goal, this might not be the best choice. Also, this style is a little harder to get out of. It is not bad (I am a middle aged out of shape person and have little problem) but I can imagine that an elderly person or someone with certain physical limitations may have an issue. And finally, this is advertised as a double hammock. But its design means that both people sort of sag to the middle. This can be very nice and intimate or it may feel crowded. The hammock stretched out flat on the floor is 12 ft long from hook to hook. The fabric part of the hammock is 7 1/2 ft long. When on the stand, I lay in mine lengthwise, and sometimes diagonal when I want to lay on my side or lay a little bit more flat. When camping and using tree straps I love to put it higher in the tree and lay in it sideways and swing it. It's comfortable in all directions! **Q: If you are to lay in this hammock will it always cocoon you as it's a double?** A: If you sleep solo in the center of a large Brazilian/Yucatan style hammock, you're going to get "walls" of cloth on either side of your head. You're supposed to lie diagonally in them, but even so you'e going to get a "wall" on one side of your head or the other. It feels claustrophobic if all you've ever done is sleep in a bed. That was me. But the feeling of cradling and the overall joint support you get after a snooze is incomparable and I got over the cons real fast--no aches and pains on waking! If the claustrophobia is a problem, get a single. But if you want something more like a bed experience, that's what they invented spreader bar hammocks for, but count on getting dumped out now and then. One compromise you can make is to put a really firm standard pillow under your head--it acts like a spreader enough to give you head space, but doesn't change the physics, comfort, and stability of sleeping on a flexible plane suspended from 2 poles. **Q: Is the sunbrella more abrasive and less comfortable than the cotton version?** A: The sunbrella is bomb proof. It also feels smaller, more narrow, and not scratchy, but not as comfortable as cotton. It looks perfect after a season in the elements. I have also owned 2 cotton hammocks by this seller. They felt larger, stretchier, more comfortable, cost 1/2 the price, and were totally faded after one season in the elements. **Q: i'm thinking about buying one of these to take camping with me. how heavy is the frame when in the case and about how big?** A: If your car camping there great because you don't need trees and there very easy to fit 3 under a 10x10 screen pop up then move them one handed as needed. Backpacking, think taking a bag the size of golf glubs along so. I put both of them together in probably 15 minutes. Very simple, no tools required. The hammock stands are hefty and well made. I was looking for a long time and read a million reviews before I settled on this kind. I’m so glad I did. These things are beefy! The stand has a nice finish and is sturdy. I set one up in the house because it was cold and rainy out. I had one cat and one dog up on the hammock with me, and when the dog got up and down, the hammock barely moved. The hammock itself is nice. It had a little bit of an odor when I first opened it, and I would have preferred to wash it before using it, but wasn’t sure how it would wash. The hammock is strong and nicely made. It’s soft and very comfortable. We also have the style of hammocks that you can hang from trees, and we will be able to use those in these stands as well. They had a decent sale on these, and I’m glad I pulled the trigger. Very happy either my purchase, and I hope they last a long time. I wonder if I can find plugs to keep the rain out of the extra holes in the stand, but that’s the only thing I would add. Just get it.
