These are much better. I got a sealer with them but you can also use the wine sealer I have. You seal the bag, place the suction device over the suction circle and press the button and it takes the air out sealing your items in with minimal air. I have only opened one of the bags I sealed so far and it was still sealed tightly unlike the others I had before. I like so much I ordered more bags before I used up what I had. I am a bit of pepper so like to have a small supply ahead. I gave a four star review because not every bag will seal but again much better than the famous name seal bags that also come like this. That famous bags were hard to find hard to and often did not stay sealed. So if you are off grid, on a boat, camping or something like that these are great. Occasionally have a bit of pumping to get the valve to 'snap' open, sometimes just repositioning the pump helps. When the valve snaps open, evacuation is quick and positive. We're using FOYO gallon and quart to repackage meat for freezing, but always put them in another cheap plastic bag first. After use, wash, dry and reuse. We've reused several of them numerous times and they continue to perform.
