Great Activity Table
We used this activity table for a train set up with the Melissa and Doug Train Set. This is a great quality table that we will use for YEARS! The table was pretty easy to put together. Took my husband and I roughly 45 minutes to put it together with minimal tools. Due to size - definitely recommended having 2 people for assembly. I was worried about the storage drawer being too small, but it has plenty of room for spare train parts (maybe even the full set if my toddler actually ever wants it put away). The table is very sturdy and is holding up to the 3 yo durability test after a month.

Great Table! My daughter loves it
I almost didn't buy this table after reading some of the reviews, but we have a lot of Melissa & Doug items and they've always been great quality, and the price is great! When we got the table, my husband had a lot going on, so I decided to try and put it together myself. Anyone who says that it is hard to put together is just not good at that sort of stuff. I thought it was a breeze - the instructions are dummy proof, and it only took me 1 hour, 15 minutes at assemble! By the time my husband got off his conference call, I was putting the last few steps together. It's sturdy, the drawer moves smoothly, and we even use under the table for concealing other toys of hers. It's the perfect height for our 3 year old, and it's nice and big, so her train fits on it nicely. We especially like that it's just white and plain green - this way, when she outgrows her train stage, we can use it for crafts or dolls or whatever. LOVE LOVE LOVE this product - would buy it as a gift any time!

My View on the Complaints
After reading what seemed like a thousand reviews, I put this table together for my daughter who did buy this from Amazon. I was a little leery as some of the reviews were not very comforting. Putting it Together: Let me start by saying that this table was very easy to put together. If this old Granny can do it all by herself, anyone can do it. It took me about two hours from dragging the pieces upstairs, piece by piece, (they are heavy together) to putting on the final touches. The instructions were well written and easy to follow. If you have a helper, all the better. The Table Top: I had no trouble with the table top. The two pieces fell right into place with no lop-sidedness and is smooth and sturdy. The rest of the structure also seems to be pretty sturdy as well. The Drawer: Some complained that their children had a hard time pulling out the drawer. That was a simple fix. I used petroleum jelly on the bottom rails of the drawer and the top dowel. Just rub a little on those areas. I'm sure baby oil would also work amongst other lubricants. Drawer goes in and out with ease and, by the way, it's quite roomy. So far, so good. The pieces were heavier and sturdier than I anticipated what with what I read and the hardware included gave me no problems at all.. The reason I only gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that the 3 1/2-year-old hasn't played with it very much yet. He is the final piece to the puzzle. I will update this once the boy has tested it out for all of us. But one thing is sure, he loves it!!

Perfect's Little Brother {aka The Next Best Thing}
I've had my share of bad experiences and disappointments with other activity table brands and after being let down a few good times, I was determined to find the perfect table. It took a couple of months, but I soon realized that the perfect activity table does not exist. Human error is real, factory defects happen, and nobody gets it right 100% of the time, but I will tell you that Melissa and Doug come pretty close with this table. We love it! My husband and I had a blast putting it together; it was so easy and came with step-by-step instructions! It's a mixture of real wood and very sturdy particle board which makes for a great quality, durable activity table. We couldn't be happier! It still looks as good as the day we bought it and my son loves it! Everything about this table is a win! Great size for and even greater price and an overall great product! I would buy this table all over again! I read that some people had parts with manufacturing defects. I know it's a pain, but contact the company ... they'll send you the part or a new table if needed. This table is worth the trouble!

Perfect Play Table
This table comes unassembled in a large, flat, heavy box. Keep in mind that I have three kids who are all interested in what I'm doing as I put this table together, so it took about 3 hours or so to assemble this table (over two days). The pieces and parts are well marked and the instructions are easy to read, understand and follow. One thing to consider.... there are the installation holes in the pieces and on the support pieces, pay SPECIAL attention to the smaller screw holes. Make sure that the screw holes are pointing/facing the bottom of the table. You will need to use the screw holes when assembling the support brackets. This note is from experience, as I had to re-assemble two of the boards. VERY sturdy and large enough for the three toddlers (2, 3, 5 years) to play without crowding each other out. I selected this table because it didn't have legs and was lower to the floor, in the event that the kids sit on the table (which undoubtedly they will). I would recommend this play table to anyone! As a plus, the drawer is also very sturdy and is supported by a dowel - dowel is supported by the table. It's perfect! Absolutely perfect!

So-so product.
Putting this table together took me about an hour. Now, a few of the pieces cracked in that time. I wasn't over tightening as far as I could tell, but the pieces still cracked. I put together an entire wooden garage set a few days before and tightened it using the same amount of force and the same tools. Not one crack on the garage set, but twice this table cracked. A few of the screws didn't go in correctly and I"m well aware it wasn't a personal fault as these screws weren't going together properly near the end of the project, when I had already done multiple just like those ones and knew how to do them properly. I suspect it has something to do with the quality of the wood and particle board. Lastly, the drawer doesn't fit together properly. There's a piece of thin particle board that you're supposed to slide in after the drawer has all three sides screwed on. But the grooves didn't line up, so the board sticks out the front further than it should and trying to screw on the front cover [with the hole/handle as shown in the item photo] didn't work out properly. I was putting this table together on Christmas Eve and wasn't about to give up though. All in all, it's alright. I paid too much for the quality of the table, I'm unhappy with it but I won't be taking the entire thing apart and shipping it back to get a new one to see IF it will go together this time. My son has walked all over the table since Christmas and it hasn't fallen apart yet, so we'll see. I may have to improvise when it comes to repairs. I wouldn't suggest this item to somebody else. If you read this review, try a different table. OH, one last bit, the green boards do NOT lift up to reveal a cubby underneath. I assumed there would be a nook under the boards to store more toys. Even a small one. I was wrong, the holes in the green board are simply to lift the boards out of the way. Deceiving as far as I'm concerned.

Not sturdy, not safe
I planned to buy my son a train set for Christmas, so I purchased the activity table ahead of time so that I could set it up early. The table collapsed within a month of me setting it up and a week before Christmas. (The bolts popped right out of the particle board.) Fortunately, my son was nowhere near the table when it happened. The bad news is the timing. This happened a week before Christmas, I didn't own it long enough to put the train set on it, and also, my Amazon return window had recently expired. I called the toll-free number on the Melissa & Doug installation instructions and tried to determine whether they'd help rectify the issue or whether I had to find a new table. Initially I was optimistic, but it's been a few days now of me calling repeatedly to find out where things stand and waiting for a call back, and I've lost faith in a Christmas miracle. In the short term, my plan to get some 2x4's or 4x4's and use them at every corner of the table to reinforce the side panels. This will hopefully make the table stable enough for my son to use his train set without me worrying about him getting hurt. The table won't look pretty, but that's not my main concern. In the long term, my plan is to build him a table using solid wood. I've looked at all the common tables that you can buy online, and they're all relatively thin particle board. After this experience, I'm not interested in owning another table made with the same material. I agree with another review who described it a little more sturdy than cardboard. (It's worth noting that there's at least one company online that sells solid wood train tables and they look great, but they're costly and I'd rather save the money and build one instead.) No, I can't recommend this to anyone. Even if my table didn't collapse, I'd be disappointed in the quality. UPDATE Jan 2013: Melissa & Doug shipped me a new table. I wasn't expecting it, as I haven't spoken to them further about the issue. I successfully reinforced the first table using the plan I described above. When I put together the new one, I'll most likely use the same reinforcements, and use it in a different part of the house as an extra table.

Very nice table
I was extremely nervous about buying this train table after reading several reviews about poor quality of materials. My husband and I spent a good amount of time looking for another table that would be the same size or bigger for a reasonable price. We were getting it for my son's birthday so as the time drew closer we just decided to get it. The table is the perfect size and is so far very sturdy. The material doesn't feel cheap or flimsy but it does appear to be particle board or something similar. It was not hard to assemble and we were able to put it together in a little over an hour. The table does sit low to the ground, which is the perfect height for my little. He prefers to be standing when he's playing with his trains. I could see how low it sits to be a con for some however. Overall, I think it's a worthy buy for a children's table.

Solid, durable and easy to put together
This table was genuinely easy to put together. We were missing a bolt and the seller send us one in the post straight away, no questions asked. Great service! The table itself is not beautiful; heavy, basic, draw hard to pull out for the under 2 year olds. Having said that, these features make it a good buy for 5 years and under. I've had three 18 month olds crawling over it at the same time, plus a roudy crowd of 4 year old scootering into it. No paint chips or collapse so far. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is its quite low. If your children are tall or 5 years and over, you might find this limited.
