Be it comics like Fables, or novels like Metro, games based on books have a lot of potential. World War Z is yet another game trying to make a novel a gaming experience, and actually does a good job. The game is a 3rd person zombie survival shooter that features gameplay reminiscent of Left 4 Dead. However, unlike L4D, World War Z features hordes of zombies so large that Dead Rising’s developers would drool. The game features four base locations and one DLC location. Each scenario has a mini campaign with 4 unique characters, all of whom can be equipped with different load outs, perks, and classes to fit your play style. The weapon selection is vast with an abundance of upgrades (silencers, sights, socks, etc.). There is also a horde mode that revolves around wave survival. Sadly, despite its impressive features and amazing personalization, this game was clearly meant to be played with friends. Though you do have a single player option, the difficulty and capabilities of the horde make if feel like your teammates are dead weight that let you down more often than not. Instead of healing themselves and fighting the hordes with you, they tend to get hardly any kills and get downed often. I understand this game is intended to be played online or in co-op, but when the ability to play solo with AI is made available, it should be balanced.
