Fantastic knife!!!!
When I heard the Whiners gripping about the finish and blade sharpness, I could only laugh at them when my knife arrived and I unwrapped it. The packaging was extremely well done. The knife was secure inside of the box and wrapped tightly to prevent it wiggling around during transport. After hearing the grumbling about the knifes look at first sight I commenced to giving it a thorough cleaning with Dawn and then started polishing the entire blade and hilt and blade with Brasso. I worked on it for about 10 minutes, mostly polishing the brass hilt and not a scratch on it. I then wiped it down with an old t-shirt and grabbed some of my wife’s furniture polish on the handle. It turned out great and IMO It looks fantastic! I NEXT took it to my 4 stage knife sharpener. It was already decently sharp but I was looking for a razors edge, like my Tai Pan and antique Tanto, along with all of my Benchmade knives. You can shave with all 6 of them and that’s not stretching the truth! Took me about 15 minutes, starting off with the third course grip and working down to the finest, using 50 swipes for each coarseness. A mere 22 later I took it to my Dads 86 year old belt and finished it off with minimal effort. I first tried it on my left arm and felt nothing as the hair dissapeared. I then took it into our bathroom and pulled out the shaving gel and my dad’s old, double edged razor. Rubbed my face after warming up my hair with the gel and went to give myself a shave. Wasn’t quite as sharp as my favorite Benchmade, and harder to hold, but I was still able to get a nice, smooth shave using a Bottle Knife. My wife thought I was nuts for doing it, but if you take your time, you truly are able to get a razors edge with this beauty! Next came the Box and Hemp rope cutting test. I took a 6’ piece of 1” hemp rope and tied it off to a rafter in the garage. Tied a small cinder block to the bottom and let it hang. Being careful with my left arm, I took a good swipe with it and it was like a hot knife going through butter. I grabbed another piece and tried it again. Zip!!!! Passed the hemp rope test with flying colors! Next I opened up a cardboard box with started with stabbing it. Straight through with zero effort. The weight does all the work after you do your part. Then I began swiping at it and again it opened up the cardboard with ease. This could be an excellent self defense weapon, but I bought it for camping duties. For the price I think you have scored one fine and heavy duty Bowie knife! Tried the sheath also. Well made and excellent carrying capabilities! All in all one you’re getting one heck of a knife good for numerous tasks at an outstanding price!!!!! Don’t think you will find another true Bowie Knife anywhere near the price of this one. I let my 8 year old grandson try it on some small, 3/4” branches from an oak tree and he chopped right through 3 of them. I’m buying him one for his 10th birthday. He loves mine and I know he will also love his and take very good care of it. Buy one! I did and love it!

Not bad, not at all a W49.
The review questioned if it was warm? Haha no. I retired my Western 49 to save as a pass it on. While the cold steel is an hommage to it in so many ways, they are not even close. The cold steel is much bigger, heavier and slightly off centerline. While a good type bowie knife and close replacement I just couldn't use it. Because the blade is much bigger the handle to blade transition is awkward,. It feels like the handle is almost too small for this blade. It looks oddly like a weak spot . A small handle to a big blade. Because the blade does not transition to a near equal ratio I feel hesitant to press it for chopping much, only because the W49 is nearly flawless in this regard the Cold steel not quite the replacement I need. Pros, as a Bowie goes it meets all the criteria. Big enough to chop with, can be used as a small sword, sharp enough to clean and process food and game and the "S" guard is well anchored. Just not what I wanted.

I tried to cancel this order.
I am happy that this order did not cancel. It is a very cool Bowie knife.

Get this one if you can afford it
I bought this with the intent of using it outdoors and beating on it like a tool. It’s a great absolutely ridiculous huge bowie. I’m glad I didn’t buy the cheap one- I’ll certainly keep this forever.

Good value, about $60.00/pound
Fit is tight, finish...a little wipe with a polishing cloth... looks great. A few strokes on a ceramic sharpener....paper is slivered, tomatoes too.. Dangler sheath on my belt....it fits great sitting in my Lazy boy, gets out of your way. Suggestion.... if you're single, buy it....good value at +/- $90 bucks. If married,....don't even think about it. It's a 1 & 1/2 pound blade! At my 5'10" height, it hangs to my knee. Think hard about its usefulness for you. Seriously...seems excellent value for your dollar. I bought mine just to round out my collection. (Every one of which will slice tomatoes. ) I got mine because I could....is it necessary for you, or just fun? PS...Leg tie lanyard has a "hangman's" knot. It is a separate piece, glued in place and can be unwrapped. I used a nail to pick it apart. 550 paracord fits just fine in the lanyard holes, handle and sheath.

Sharp!
I got this as a gift to give, and the thing was sharp! Others said it was not too sharp or dull, but this sliced open the thick cardboard box it came with like it was made of soften butter. So buyers beware this knife is a proper knife! Handle with care.

Not typical Cold Steel quality
I was disappointed in the quality of this knife. The wood scales feel cheap and are unevenly finished. The blade goes from being 2 inches wide at the base, down to maybe .75 inches for the tang with no transition. It just goes from big to small at a 90 degree angle and it seems like this massive blade would snap off at the handle if you were to put it to use. The weight is pretty standard for a big knife. I have no complaints with the factory edge. It came sharp out of the box. The balance is too forward heavy to be functional. I got mine for $60 on sale so I will be keeping it, but I would not pay any more for this knife. Honestly, even for $60 you could get a much better knife and pass on this one altogether. For a big blade Bowie I recommend picking up a used Western W49 or Case XX Bowie. They're discontinued but still available for $120 - $300 depending on the condition. I have read that the Bear & Sons Bowie is similar to the W49, but I do not have personal experience with it. If they are as good as a W49, I would go that route for a good first time or "user" Bowie knife.
