Like a lot of people, I knew Oldfield from his early releases like Tubular Bells and Ommadawn but kind of lost track. This set includes an updated recording of Tubular Bells which benefits from 30 years of recording technology improvements. It sounds the same note for note. It also includes Tubular 2 and 3 and two other albums all I had never heard. Love them all and I am so happy that I rediscovered my appreciation of Mike Oldfield.

As a Teenager I got into the synthetic sounds as on Kraftwerk Simple Minds Jean Michel Jarre etc. Mike Oldfield is a very elaborate classical Irish almost Orchestra oriented player in my opinion. I am fascinated by his talent, the far reaching broad spectrum of a music composer , it is a shame not to check his talents out. This collection is broad and truly enjoyable.

Great value and an Amazing composer

More than exceeded my expectations.

Mike Oldfields Ruhm basiert auf seinem praktisch instrumentalen 1973er- Debütalbum "Tubular Bells", von dem Teile im "Exorzist"- Filmsoundtrack verwendet wurden. Auf dieses TB- Schema baute er die Nachfolgealben "Hergest Ridge", "Ommadawn" und "Incantations" auf, bevor er anfing, auch mit poppigen Sounds und Gastsängern zu experimentieren. In den Achtzigern gelangen ihm respektable Hits wie "Moonlight Shadow", "Shadow on the Wall" und "To France", bevor er 1990 schließlich mit "Amarok" zur instrumentalen Langform zurückkehrte. Zwei Jahre später präsentierte Oldfield "Tubular Bells 2", das Struktur und Komposition des Debüts modernisierend aufgriff und intelligent variierte - eine hochinteressante Neuinterpretation desselben musikalischen Terrains. "Songs of Distant Earth" ist die Kombination von Oldfields E- Gitarre und Enigma- artiger elektronischer Musik. "Voyager" hingegen ist keltisch- akustisch inspiriert. "Tubular Bells 3" ist unter Fans umstritten, weil es bekannte TB- Motive mit Dance- Rhythmen aus Ibizas Discos unterlegt. "Tubular Bells 2003" schließlich ist eine komplette Note- by- Note- Neueinspielung des Originals in perfektem Klang. In dieser 5CD- Box erhält man zwar keins der berühmten Oldfield- Frühwerke, aber das klanglich perfektionierte TB2003, das hörenswerte TB2 und drei Alben, auf denen Oldfield seinen musikalischen Stil zu erweitern versucht. Mir persönlich geben SODE und TB3 nicht viel, aber Voyager finde ich gelungen. Und da die ganze Box nur so viel kostet wie eine Einzel- CD, gebe ich die vollen fünf Sterne. Allein schon für TB2003 und TB2. Wer die kultigen Frühsiebziger- Originale will, liegt mit dieser Box falsch. Wer die großen Achtziger- Hits hören möchte, wird hier auch nicht glücklich. Wer aber Oldfields TB- Klangkosmos entdecken will, der kann hier günstig einsteigen.

Sabía muy bien lo que compraba, de los 5 discos tengo 4, sólo lo compré por Voyager, los 5 salieron muy baratos y siempre está bien tener una copia de más de cualquiera de estos discos. Lo único como dice que vienen en cartón, por mí bien
