Just prior to achieving superstar status in a legendary run of hit films, screen legend Burt Reynolds dazzled television audiences as Lt. Detective Dan August, a top cop working the homicide beat in his Southern California hometown. This Quinn-Martin production has all of the trademark excitement of the 1970's cop shows that would follow, and features a who's who of Hollywood greats in early guest roles, including Martin Sheen, Harrison Ford, Billy Dee Williams, Dabney Coleman, and many others. 26 episodes, 24 hrs, 4 DVDs. Review: dvd - excellent thank you. Review: Picture quality is incredible - I’m a 70s tv fan. This has scores of well known staple 70s actors - very nostalgic. Thoroughly enjoying.

Worth buying from Amazon.
This plays as region 2, no problems, good picture and sound, it,s all down to good equipment, a 50inch LG helps , so I'm fortunate to enjoy the best experience.

Had never heard about this short lived series. When I found out it was Quinn Martin, I had to get it. Love all the Quinn Martin series from the 70's.

Bonne série avec de bonnes histoires, le pilote est très bien, 2 acteurs pour jouer Dan August: Christopher George et Burt Reynolds, bon tous les deux, pas de sous titres malheureusement mais peut être lu sur un lecteur région 2.

Like many others, I remember this series from its original run, and I certainly remember the TV movie pilot, which stood out in that period. I did not, however, like others, find the quality to be poor. Other than a handful of momentary video issues and voices being higher than normal here and there, the overall quality is just fine. The show itself didn't have the sophistication of later series, but the stories were rather good, and it was fun to see guest stars from old Hollywood (Mickey Rooney, Walter Pidgeon), as well as up-and-comers like Martin Sheen and Harrison Ford. Yep, he was in an episode with future co-star, Billy Dee Williams. "Dan August" might not suit the tastes of those who didn't see it in 1970-71, but it was a good cop show that should have had a longer run. Its star did okay, since his next project was a little film called "Deliverance."

Good writing & acting! Burt is right on. I wish I had seen this series before I worked with him & Sly on "Driven" in 2000
