I used it anyway filling it with Miller's High Life beer and baking the chicken the oven. No beer flavor I tasted. I will experiment with a stronger beer or wine in the future. I recommend this for upright chicken roasting and for a flower vase. After cleaning the chickens thoroughly inside and out--none of this rinse and pat dry, I season the inside and rub down the outside of the chicken with the combination of broth or other liquid and herbs, etc., that i fill the roaster with up to just under its "portholes." Of course, I stand the roasters in a drip pan, else drippings from the chicken would splatter the oven. To make the infusion of the steaming broth penetrate the chicken more deeply on the outside, I construct a very large, roomy aluminum foil tent over the chickens and the drip pan, creating a kind of steamer. The tent can be removed during the latter half of the roasting so that the skin crisps to a golden brown. The lovely thing about this vertical roaster, as opposed to any other you find on the market, is that the leftover broth (which can be augmented if there isn't enough) is the basis for any number of sauces or gravy. Do you give the chicken an "enema" with the glass? The instructions just say "put chicken over roaster". I assume the herbs and water or whatever should not leak out of the holes, but again no instructions. Do you put the whole thing in a pan, or not? If anyone has used one of these before, I'd love some decent instructions. BTW I also googled Catamount Glassware, Inc. Found a web site, but this vertical chicken roaster is not listed as one of their products.
