DMT A4X Whetstone Knife Sharpener and Diamond Sharpening Stone for Use with Aligner, 4 Inches, Extra Coarse

I bought this coarse stone along with some of the other DMT stones awhile ago and have become a huge fan. This particular stone is very effective at repairing an edge, but what I'm most impressed with is the quality. The construction of the stone is solid and tolerances are excellent. This truly will be a lifetime tool for me - which is an important consideration when I buy tools. It's a great example of a quality product made in the USA.

I bought this to re-bevel blades with my DMT Aligner. I was worried that I should have ordered the XX coarse instead, but I now know that it isn't needed. Maybe if you're trying to grind away something really hard like D2 or ZDP-189 you'll need it, but I don't have anything above 58 or 60 HRC. This things chews through 1095 carbon, 12C27 Sandvik and 8CR13MoV like butter, and has no trouble at all with S30V and VG10. I can put a new bevel on any of my knives in a few minutes with minimal effort.

Very good bargain. DMT products are so superior to the cheaper knock-off diamond sharpening stones, and they far out perform the traditional stones with none of the mess of using honing oil. The x-course grit is great at bringing back a blunt edge. Highly recommended.

This is a pretty darn aggressive stone so ONLY buy this if you will be reprofiling your primary bevels. I do that with all my knives so this was worth it to me. I COULD have done that with just the coarse but it would have taken me much much longer without this stone. Please note: let the diamonds do the work for you - use very little or no pressure! Very gentle quick strokes are what is called for here! Note: this stone is meant to be used with the DMT Aligner. I suppose that you could use it freehand but that's not a wise thing with a smaller stone like this and setting a primary bevel ...

Great stones and easy to travel with.

High quality, no issues, but I wish I would have ordered the large stone. The pocket size is great for the car or boat, but not for serious sharpening.

ich habe als Vorarbeit den silbernen Schleifstein um arge Scharten im Messer auszuwetzen. danach den hier um die Furchen zu bereinigen OHNE Druck arbeiten, das Teil nimmt es einem sonst übel Die Groben Teile nehmen auch so viel Material ab danach mit welchen auch immer fertig machen (ich hab die weiteren DMT Diamanten rot,grün, blau und fleischfarben)

Works well and fits, only use this grit to repair knife edge from heavy damage tho
