The aluminum housing is rugged as well. Both bulb options are crazy bright. The magnet on the end is strong enough to hold the light securely upside-down or horizontally, as long as you're attaching to a relatively flat piece of metal. If you want to attach it to a metal cylinder, like the leg of a chair, you'll probably need to add some tape or something else to support it.
